My research focuses on variation and discourse phenomena at the syntax–pragmatics interface in French and Russian. I work within the framework of Fribourg Pragma-Syntax, while also drawing more broadly on functionalist linguistic philosophy, as well as on corpus-based and variationist methodologies. My approach is therefore empirical, with a focus on morphosyntactic variation and its associated pragmatic values, as well as on the differences between spoken and written modes of interaction. In this context, I am particularly interested in the interactional potential of different grammatical variants — that is, constructions often described as conveying “the same meaning”, a claim I critically re-examine in my work.

To date, I have explored variation in interrogative structures of French, reformulation markers in French and Russian, pragmatic sequences in French such as Tu sais quoi ? (‘you know what?’), and left-dislocation constructions in Russian — the latter through the lens of Fribourg discourse grammar, originally conceptualized for French data.
